What inspires the Rex London design team?

We’ve taken a snoop into our designers’ humble abodes to see what inspires them when they’re not at work. From travel souvenirs to weekend routines, from family time to savouring nature, here’s a glimpse into what sparks their creativity.

After a long day at work how do you like to unwind at home?

After work, I always want to be outside so love to go for a walk in one of the beautiful parks that we have near our flat. I find the open space and fresh air really relaxing, and just love people watching. At home, when I have time, I love to cook and am often finding new recipes to try. I find that really helps me to unwind; especially with a glass of wine!

Which Rex product(s) do you have your eye on at the moment?

At the moment I am loving our new face masks. They're a fun way to give yourself some pampering at the end of the day! The Moisturising Mouse one makes my skin feel great.

Do you pick up little mementos when you travel?

Always! It is one thing I make sure I do wherever I go as I love to have reminders of our adventures in our home. The last thing I picked up was a little ceramic elephant incense stick holder in Thailand- it reminds me of my birthday when I got to meet the beautiful creatures themselves.

Since it's almost hibernation season how do you plan on spending the cooler months at home?

With lots of cups of tea, bubble baths and a good old Netflix binge.

Nadia

How do you spend a typical weekend morning at home?

The kids will be up first thing, we’re lucky it they stay in past 6am. So it’s a cup of tea and some TV and then some playing at home. We’ll make a train track, get the lego out or maybe do some baking. Then it’s usually a good idea to get out of the house early as the kids have so much energy!

What’s your favourite colour to use when creating a design?

I love playing with colour, it’s my favourite part of the job. Getting the colours right is so important; it can make or break a design. I try to use a limited palette and try to get the most out of each colour. I am always drawn to red and blue and I am loving a little bit of pink at the moment.

Where do you like hang your children’s artwork at home?

We do lots of arts and crafts with the children at home so our walls are covered in constantly changing pictures and creations. We mostly hang them all over their bedrooms and on the fridge.

Since it's almost hibernation season, how do you plan on spending the cooler months at home?

I love knitting so it’s the perfect time of year to get on with some knitting projects in front of the TV. I’m just finishing some new mittens and hats for my kids.

How would you describe your interior style?

Oh, I am not sure.. A weird mix of things I guess. I am a bit of a collector, my home is filled with books, cactuses, different types of coffee cups and lots of prints, photography and illustrations that I have swapped or bought around the world. I like when a home has character and you can sense the personality of the person living there in the interior and when it's not too sterile.

How much time do you spend painting and creating a week?

Not as much as I want and as I should. I love doodling, working with collage and trying new ways of mark making but I have to confess I don't do it often enough.

Do you find a lot of inspiration for your designs in Sweden?

I think I get inspiration from a little bit of everything, I find London very inspiring. But I definitely think that growing up in Sweden affected me, I grew up in the north in a big house with my dad and my sister surrounded by forest and next to a big mountain. He would take me out and build igloos, skiing on frozen lakes and build weird snow sculptures in winter, carve wooden trolls to paint and then hide in the forest, camping and exploring mountains and caves in summer. My sister loved drawing and had a great imagination and was great at coming up with new games. I think the fact that I had space and time to play and that my family is so creative shaped me and my creativity and love for nature.

What’s your favourite thing to do when all your family are home?

As my children are grown up and we all have such busy lives we like to make a big meal and sit around the table, as it’s a great way for us to catch up with each other while eating some great home cooked food (which I’m sure the kids miss!)

What takes prized possession on your shelf?

Our children's artwork holds sentimental value and they definitely take prized possession on our shelves at home.

Since it's almost hibernation season, how do you plan on spending the cooler months at home?

As the evenings get darker, we like to get cosy by putting on the fire to have a few nights out of the week to relax in front of the TV as a family and watch some films, classic and new.

We hope we’ve given you plenty of ideas and inspiration to style up your own creative space. We’d love to see the results, so share your photos with us on our Facebook page or by tagging @rexlondonuk on Instagram.
