Homemade Christmas cards
When it gets cold outside, finding things to do that don’t cost a lot of money can be tricky, but using a little imagination can go a long way. We’ve rounded up some things that you can find around the house such as wrapping paper, card and glue to create a wonderful homemade Christmas card. Take a look at our step by step tutorial below and get started!
You will need:
- Plain card
- Twine
- Glue - Pritt Stick or PVA
- Scissors
- Wrapping paper (we used our Joli Noel and Christmas Wonderland Wrapping Paper)
- Scalpel
- Alphabet stamp set
- Ruler
- Coloured card
Craft tape
Step 1 - Get cutting
Start by folding the the card in half.
Draw out the shape of the tree after folding the second card in half.
Cut out the tree shape using scissors.
Step 2 - Creating and threading baubles
Using the scalpel, cut out shapes from the wrapping paper to make Christmas baubles.
(If a small child is doing this craft activity with you, it may be best for the adult to take over or for the child to use safety scissors)
At the top of each bauble, cut out a small hole to thread the twine through, and make a knot at the back of the bauble.
Step 3 - Preparing the tree
On the tree, cut out the holes for the baubles to hang from. (if a small child is doing this craft activity with you, it may be best for the adult to take over or for the child to use safety scissors).
Stick the end of the twine to the back of the christmas tree and leave to dry.
Once dry add some more glue to the the back of the tree and stick to the white card.
Step 4 - Stamp a Christmas greeting
Using our gingham craft tape, cut a section that matches how long you would like the lettering to be.
If you would like the tape to be thinner on the card, cut it in half with the scalpel on the mat and stick.
Using the tape as a guide line, stamp each letter to make a wonderful Christmas message and there you have it! Your own homemade Christmas card full of character and charm.
An extra idea to add sparkle - make a mini window!
Step 1 - Get cutting
We suggest using our Winter Wonderland wrap to add a little window to the card.
Cut out a piece of the wrap for the outdoor scene and stick to the card.
Step 2 - Create the window ledge
Use a ruler to thinly cut up and measure pieces of coloured card to make a window, and then glue on top of the Winter Wonderland scene.
