How to dress for summer!

When the temperature soars, how do you dress without sacrificing your style? Choosing clothes in the heat takes some consideration, so here are our tips for dressing (and looking) cool!

1. Colours and materials that care

Basic rule number one, try to avoid dark colours - you'll feel far cooler in pale colours than in dark ones, so no matter how much you love those navy blue jeans, put them away for now!

The type of material also makes a huge difference to your comfort. Think light, breathable, natural fabrics like cotton, linen and silk blends - even lightweight wool works for a summer suit! Remember, heavy denim, polyester and nylon are just going to make you sweat.

2. Beautiful summer styles

If your wardrobe is built around your favourite pair of jeans, summer could spell discomfort, but there are so many other styles that embrace the season! Break out the maxi dresses, short skirts (without leggings this time) and long, flowing gypsy skirts.

Never wear dresses? Then rock a pair of shorts or some long linen trousers to keep your legs cool. Three-quarter length jeans are making a comeback, or you could try exotic (and comfy!) harem pants.

3. This year's trends

So what's hot this year? Slip dresses with spaghetti straps are a wardrobe essential for this summer, as are super cool white shirts for both men and women, and sheer fabric panels in tops and skirts.

It also looks like crop tops are here to stay - wear with shorts if you don't mind bearing your midriff, or pair with a high-waisted skirt if you prefer to cover up.

4. Sun protection

In summer it's super important to protect against the sun, but don't see it as a chore - it's just another excuse to accessorise! Of course, you should add suncream into your makeup routine, and you can do this easily by using an SPF foundation.

As for clothing, everybody loves a good sun hat. You can go for a cool, retro cap or a truly elegant wide-brimmed sunhat. Pop on a pair of shades too - subtle or studded with diamantes, it's your choice - and you're ready for a stylish summer's day!

5. Handy clothes storage

Whilst you're rocking the summer with a wardrobe of cool cotton and on-trend one pieces, you can keep all your winter woollens safe with a storage bag from Rex London.

Big enough to store all your winter goodies, you can zip it up to protect your clothes from moths, so they'll be nice and fresh when it's time to bring back your cold weather clothes!
