15 amazing (Christmas-inspired) mummy blogs
Mums and Christmas go hand in hand: she's there to fill the stockings, hang the decorations and serve up the roast. So this festive season we thought we'd celebrate all the effort our mothers put in, with a collection of some truly brilliant mummy blogs!
Adventures of an Unfit Mother
As a mother of five, Emma blogs to keep a record of her 'mad busy' life, so if you want a sneak peek into the fun (and stress!) of a big family, stop by at Adventures for an Unfit Mother.
This is a lovely blog, packed with stories of family life and the musings of this funny, honest blogger. Emma has recently started a creative writing course and it's clear why - she has obvious natural talent! Read her hilarious musings on singing, getting a tattoo and the etiquette of en suites.
We especially love her post about rediscovering all those old Christmas decorations she only sees once a year. Last year she dug out some family favourites, including a cute clothes peg reindeer!
A Mummy Too
Are you a busy parent, constantly walking the fine line between cooking time and giving your children healthy, interesting meals? Then A Mummy Too is here to help you out.
Emily is an enthusastic blogger who likes to write about parenting, with a focus on lifestyle, work and, of course, food. As well as her inspiring 'recipe of the week' segment, there's also loads of great information about cooking with kids so you can teach your little ones to love the kitchen too.
We can't enough of her gorgeous Christmas spiced shortbread men. Described by her five year old as 'biscuity', the family made Mr and Mrs Santa biscuits together - and the recipe is simple enough for beginners of any age!
Circus Queen
Eight years ago, Adele left sunny Trinidad and Tobago for the excitement of Brighton. She fell in love, married and now has an adorable daughter, Talitha.
She loves to write about health, thriftiness and gentle parenting, which emphasises a positive approach to raising children. There's loads of detailed, practical advice here - including a great post about potty-training - which will make any struggling parent feel in control again (and calm too!).
We particularly like her post on teaching kids about the weather - seeing little Talitha with the snow really got us in a festive mood! Why not make a weather chart with your little ones so they can learn about the weather too?
Grenglish
This award-winning blogger writes about life raising her half-English, half-Greek son with her Greek God(zilla) husband. Life is busy and always interesting in the Grenglish household!
Sarah writes about everything from blogging to parenting, fashion to fitness, and she's brimming with advice for new parents and working mums. Whether you need to know practical tipsfor a child's first day at school, or you just want to drool over holiday snaps from gorgeous Crete, you'll find it all here.
Christmas is the perfect time for big families to get together and we love the photos from the Grenglish gatherings, including Uncle Pete dressed up as Santa!
Honest Mum
It's right there in the title: this mum will be honest with you about everything, be it food, life or parenting. This is the place to come for frank, useful advice and a really good read.
This blog is full of sumptuous photographs, including some beautiful misty landscapes taken at the Yorkshire coast. There are loads of brilliant recipes too, so after you've been out for a winter stroll with the family you can curl up with a steaming bowl of Honest Mum's beef casserole.
For this family Christmas started early this year, with Oliver donning his Santa suit way back in July. Well, it certainly suits him and it pays to be prepared!
Mother's Always Right
Mother's always right, we all know that, and this mother is no exception. Whether she's sharing her wisdom about marriage or travelling with kids, there's plenty of great advice to be found here.
Particularly interesting are her posts about parenting, including how there is no 'right' way to raise your children and why parents tend to focus on their failures rather than their successes. Sensible, pragmatic and very interesting, Mother's Always Right is a goldmine for every parent.
We really love the Christmas present she made for her daughter last year. This clever mummy upcycled a beautiful dolls' house, just in time for Christmas Day!
Mother, Wife, Me
Mother, Wife, Me is the home of blogger Luci, who writes about motherhood, working, and living in London with a family. She's on a mission to 'take over the world' through social media - a noble cause if we ever heard one!
Check out the hilarious 'Toddler Talk' for some brilliant musings on raising a toddler (toilet treats, anyone?) or, if you'd prefer a little me time, pop over to the 'Beauty Beat' to keep up with the latest in beauty care. This is a great blog for busy city mums and aspiring bloggers alike.
We especially love the quirky Christmas decorations she came across last year. Not your typical festive foliage, sure, but they look lovely nonetheless.
Mummy Never Sleeps
Mummy never sleeps ... and we can quite believe it! Between working as a stay-at-home mum to her four year old and writing this wonderful blog, we're sure she must be busy all the time.
Cas blogs about life at home with her boy, the Bean, and she also writes frankly about her depression. Writing Mummy Never Sleeps is as much catharsis for this brilliant blogger as it is a refreshing blast of honesty for her readers. This is absolutely a blog you mustn't miss.
We can't get enough of her gingerbread igloo of glory. Cas is the first to admit that she's not a baker, but she isn't afraid to try her hand at confectionery now and again, and this spectacular festive creation is the result!
Not Another Mummy Blog?
This isn't just another mummy blog. Alison brings her own unique style to the world of blogging, creating a gorgeous corner of the internet for all things fashion, beauty and family.
She has some great advice about getting some time to yourself as a mum, from lengthy pampering sessions to quick makeup tips, for mums in a hurry who still want to look their best. And when it comes to quality family time, read her travel tips for taking kids to theme parks, country cottages and even music festivals. Oh yes, anything's possible!
If you're already in the festive mood, check out the 'Twelve Mums of Christmas' - thoughtful interviews with inspiring and successful mums. They even compiled a list of their favourite Christmas treats, including that old favourite, mulled wine.
Not My Year Off
When Tas took a year off to look after her new son, she quickly realised that it could not be called a year 'off' and this marvellous blog was born.
Now she works part time and blogs about the ups and downs of bringing up a toddler. Whether they're going on road trips to London or indulging in sweet treats that will make you drool, this family's always having fun and now you can join them for the ride.
We love her story of the first Christmas with her newborn, when she realised that her new baby had her chin. The moment was captured on film and she was so engrossed with the baby that she didn't even realise it was Christmas Day!
Perfectly Happy Mum
Peggy started blogging five years ago, just one week after her second son was born, and her blog has gone from strength to strength.
Since then Perfectly Happy Mum has changed a lot. Now it's less about being a mummy (although there's still plenty of family time here), and more about what she gets up to when the boys are out at school. She draws, paints and relives her childhood in France by cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
We love seeing how the boys decorated the Christmas tree last year. They did it all on their own with no help from mum, and we think it looks wonderful!
Rainy Day Mum
What do you do with young children on a rainy day? Visit Rainy Day Mum to find out! This fabulous blog is full to bursting with inspiring ideas for those wet weekends.
There are great activities for every age, including play dough for very young babies and telescope-making for toddlers. Plus, if you want to educate your tots whilst they play, check out the 'Learn' archives for all sorts of fun learning aids.
We think the Christmas tree ornaments the Rainy Day Mum made with her children are just lovely! The little ones used gems and pom poms to make their decorations, so why not try it this year with your kids?
Real Housewife of Suffolk County
Forget fake tans and ridiculous bling - this real housewife is a little more down to earth and a lot more interesting!
Here you can read Lauren's amazing birth stories and catch up with her growing family as they explore outside and appreciate life's small moments. Top it all off with yummy recipes and gorgeous photos, and you have a blog that you really can't miss.
We really like her tips for solving that age-old dilemma: how do you avoid giving the second child cast-offs for Christmas, without spending loads of money on new toys? Judging by baby Harry's reaction to his presents last year, we think she's doing it right.
Richmond Mummy
Mother to two gorgeous little girls, Richmond Mummy works, blogs and occasionally indulges in a cup of tea and a chocolate hob nob.
If you're expecting, check out her invaluable posts on pregnancy, featuring everything from birth plans to introducing a new baby to your toddler. But if you're just after some good old-fashioned family fun, you can't get better than their toilet roll and tissue paper dinosaur, Daisy. This blog is packed with fun for little ones!
We love her snaps from Christmas 2012. There were plenty of noisy presents for her adorable toddler - including a Peppa Pig guitar and a recorder - who also looked just lovely as an angel.
Thinly Spread
Thinly Spread is the internet home of Chris, a very busy tutor, writer and, of course, mum. Thinly spread she might be but she doesn't do anything by halves, making this a truly inspiring parenting blog.
Cooking and gardening reign supreme here, as Chris plants everything you need to make a pizza and shows her son how to grow a cress caterpillar. If you're in need of family-friendly meals or more complicated adult fare, you'll find it all here.
We think her festive ice lanterns are just genius. They're made by freezing Christmassy foliage in a bowl made of ice, and then popping in a t-light to make a beautiful holiday nightlight!
