Treat yourself this Valentine's Day

If you're single, Valentine’s Day can feel like an exclusive nightclub where your name's not on the list. Humph. But with all this love in the air, remember that it's just as important to love yourself.

With that in mind, here are 10 heartwarming little treats you can give yourself this Valentine’s Day.

1. Take a day off

It’s always the same people at work who get massive bunches of flowers each year — yawn! So simply take the day off and avoid all the slushy fuss. If you can’t take a day off, send yourself a humungous bunch of flowers with a handwritten card in French. That’ll teach ‘em for showing off!

2. Play catch

Yep, you can play a game of catch with yourself. Simply throw the ball up into the sky and let gravity do the rest. After a while - and with some classical music in the background - you'll find it's quite therapeutic! Other great solo games include solitaire, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.

3. Go for a walk

There’s nothing like a romantic walk (for one), just you and nature together. If you live near the coast, take a stroll beside the crashing waves and think about your personal journey and how far you’ve come. Or enjoy a moonlit walk by yourself and
see if you can hear an owl.

4. Write your autobiography

Your story needs to be written and it would be a crime to keep the world waiting any longer. Just think about all those adventures you’ve had and forget about romance and dating: today is about writing your story. If Richard Branson can do it, so can you.

5. Relax in a jacuzzi

Swimming is a great activity for one. You can just be quiet and gently work those muscles. That feels good, right? And once you've done some lengths, you can finish off with a relaxing wallow in a jacuzzi. Even make your own bubbles if there's nobody around to raise an eyebrow!

6. Buy a pet

Dogs make great best friends and loyal companions, cats are relativey hassle-free and guinea pigs make adorable noises. Sure, they can be smelly and they don't exactly say much, but don’t let that put you off buying a wonderful companion that
will always be there for you. Pets will never try to change you or tell you what to do!

7. Have a massage

Treat yourself to a proper massage – go on. It’s relaxing and also good for your body and mind. You can book into a health club or hotel for full body massage with a talented masseur. There are so many different types to choose from these days and you’ll be amazed how great you feel afterwards.

8. Try something new

Always wanted to parachute out of an aeroplane? Desperate to try rally car racing or a yoga retreat? There's no better day to book your dream activity than Valentine’s Day, when everybody else is relaxing in restaurants and cinemas. You could even try putting your feet in a tank full of fish! It makes you giggle, apparently.

9. Cook a meal

You might not want to book a table for one in a couple-filled restaurant, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on really great food. Why not go shopping and buy all the ingredients you need to make yourself that favourite meal? Try cooking
something new, but make sure it’s food you love. Love food tastes the best.

10. Visit loved ones

What would we do without friends and family, eh? Through thick and thin, trouble and strife, a good friend is worth their weight in gold. If you have single friends, it’s a no brainer: go and see them, and do some of these activities together. Who needs romance when you have friend love? Aww.
