How to set up an Easter egg hunt

It simply isn't Easter without an egg hunt! There are so many ways to set up an Easter egg hunt. We suggest hiding little treats and then providing children with a series of clues to hunt them all down. Here are some handy tips for setting up the perfect Easter egg hunt at home to keep little ones entertained during the holidays.

1. Be creative

Come up with fun and unique places to hide eggs. Make sure they are well hidden but within easy to reach places, such as inside a shoe, a dressing gown pocket, an egg carton, or pot plant if you're playing indoors. If you're lucky enough to have some outside space, and the weather is looking good, you can get creative in the garden. Just be aware of any flower beds you may not want trampled, or any spiky plants that might hurt little hands.

If there is more than one child taking part, you might want to consider colour coding the eggs, so everyone can hunt for their own colour.

2. Keep it simple

Keep the clues simple, fun and visual - think silly riddles and rhymes, or a funny drawing of the location (this might be a tough clue to crack, depending on your art skills). The number of clues you need to come up depends on many things - the age and attention span of the treasure seekers, plus the size and quantity of the hidden prizes. There's no right or wrong - you'll know what's best for your participants.

If you're pressed for time, you can skip writing out clues and just enjoying shouting 'warmer' and colder' as the children explore.

3. Protect the haul

Remember the baskets - they'll need something to put their treasures in as they discover them!

4. Jot it down

Remember where you hide the eggs. If you're anything like us, you'll forget where they are within minutes of hiding them. It's a good idea to jot down the locations to avoid you (or the dog!) discovering them weeks later.
